"On behalf of the Athletic Department of the Broken Arrow Public Schools,
we welcome you. We are very proud of our Tigers and are excited about
the future of our programs. Athletics is one of the most important elements
in the overall education of our students. Sports provide an opportunity to
extend the learning process through interscholastic competition."
-Ken Ellett, Athletics Director

enhance the experiences student-athletes receive first in the classroom.
The Broken Arrow athletic program is consistent with school's overall
philosophy and objectives. We provide a vigorous and diverse athletic
program, offering opportunities to all of our students.

Ellett named AD of the Year
OCA honors BAHS director during luncheon

A fourth time was the charm for Broken
Arrow High School’s Ken Ellett.
On Tuesday, Ellett was named Oklahoma
Coaches Association Athletic Director of
the Year.
Ellett, in his 20th year at BAHS, was
honored during a luncheon during the
OCA All-State week activities in Tulsa.
This was the fourth time Ellett had been
a finalist for the prestigious honor after
being named OCA Region 7 AD of the
Year three other times.
“They called us up front,” Ellett said. “When they announced my name, I
was surprised. This is quite an honor and something I’m very proud to have.”

BAHS gets go-ahead on indoor facility
Construction on locker room to start soon

With a green light, Broken Arrow
High School’s plans for a football-
field length, multipurpose facility
have shifted into gear.
Ground has been broken – and
construction could be days away –
for a football locker room at the
south end of Memorial Stadium.
The passage of the school bond
package last week has cleared
the way for an indoor facility,
which will be attached to the
dressing area.
BAHS Athletic Director Ken Ellett said plans are in the drawing stages, but expects the
project – which will cost an estimated $2.5 million – will gain steam next month.
“Once we get started,” Ellett said, “there are going to be a lot of meetings.”
A timetable has not been established for the indoor arena.
Plans call for a 100-yard, artificially-surfaced practice area, which will be used by football,
soccer, band and “all kinds of groups,” Ellett said.
Included is enough space between the practice area and the wall “to give the band enough
room for its equipment.”
The height will be determined by costs, but “it won’t be high enough to punt,” Ellett said.
BAHS athletic officials and coaches have toured indoor facilities at Greenwood and
Bentonville, Ark.
Ellett anticipates there “should be enough room for short field goals” and drew an idea from
Bentonville.
“They (Bentonville) have a netting at one end for extra points,” Ellett said. “They have the
uprights painted on the net, which was really neat.”
Ellett said work crews have almost completed drilling 64 geothermal wells on the site.
The 300-foot deep wells will provide the heating and cooling for the facilities.
“I’ve been told they could be finished drilling this week,” Ellett said, smiling. “If that’s the
case, they could get to work very soon on the locker room.”
Ellett said a July 31 deadline has been set for the locker room, which will house weight-lifting
equipment, should be occupied by football in time for preseason drills.
A second floor will include the athletic department office, but Ellett doesn’t expect that area
to be completed by late summer.
Since Memorial Stadium was opened in 2000, BAHS football dressing rooms have remained
on the west side of campus, nearly a quarter-mile away.
A third phase, Ellett said, will see expansion of BAHS basketball (boys and girls), wrestling
and volleyball dressing facilities.
